Seriously though, how can I break the habit of buying books and never reading them?

Open and read them.

the thrill is in learning about books, finding them online, clicking buy, waiting for them to arrive and opening the package. after that it's all downhill, what are you left with but the massive burden of actually having to read it.

I don't know. Print out covers of books you want to buy and collect them in a notebook.

Make yourself read an easy amount of pages for you a day. Force yourself too. Eventually one day you'll naturally want to read more pages and if that's manageable up your page count.

read even just a few pages or paragraphs here and there
no need to rush

Set a goal for yourself to read a certain number of books every month or every year. 50 per year is baseline unless you’re exclusively reading 600+ page books. Set aside time to read at least 5 days per week with no distractions. Ideally you should be reading at least a little every day. You’ll still have unread books on your shelf but it will be a more manageable amount. Accept that you will probably never read them all.

set aside time to read them. Maybe install a website blocker so wouldn't get distracted by the internet

Unless you’re reading short books, 50+ books a year is out of the range of most people with full time jobs and other responsibilities

Just set a small goal for yourself like 30-60 mins a day, everyday. As you get used to it, increase your reading time
