Books that argue against animals? I hate animals so much it's unreal. Humans have figured out means of living relatively peaceful lives thanks to mutual cooperation and animals seems to me to be backward in this regard. They just mindlessly kill one another. I want them all to be extinct.

Wagner in a letter to Mathilde Wesendonck, 1 October 1858:
