For me, it's this absolutely embarrassing disaster of a novel. Nearly 500 pages of utterly meaningless, pseudo-poetic, pseudo-philosophical nonsense. Perhaps it's just the translation, but this has some of the worst prose ever written.

Absolutely based that read Tender Buttons.
Absolutely cringe that you didn't feel the rhythm of the language.

The food section was the best part. I thought I could sense stirring and kneading kitchen rhythms. But I don't know. I don't know anything about poetics. Some parts were alternately hilarious or sexy. But I posted it in this thread because out of all my 6 reads of 2021 thus far, it's been the "worst". Because it simply went over my head, being ignorant of poetics as I am. All 5 of my other reads were painstakingly selected classics, which I loved.

Did this pedantic boomer write anything worth reading? I got through the first chapter and I really couldn't be fucked to go through another if it's more long winded stories/tangents centered around how cool and quirky he is. I'm sure it's easy to be "zen" when you have the luxury to fuck off with your buddies on motorcycle trips and spend your free time working on your garage toys.

What did you dislike about it? I've been thinking about reading it myself.
