We have writings from his students and students' students (Plato, Xenophon, Aristotle, Antisthenes, and so forth) which confirm his existence. Also, these writings largely correspond with one another regarding his philosophy. There's no reason to believe he's a mythological figure, unless you're the kind of guy who denies the historicity of every historical figure, from Jesus Christ to Genghis Khan.
