Cheap Chinese tablet. You can alternate between books and chan autism more easily than with any pretentious e ink device.

Got a kindle paperwhite recently and it’s the best purchase I’ve made in years

This or a second hand kobo from ebay. Think of how many books youll need to read on a new device before it becomes more economical than paper.

one of those e-ink readers is best, reads just like a book

don't go for a tablet with a backlight, tablets are for clover and mobile shitposting

e-ink with togglable backlight is best of both worlds though

If you want the absolute best, it depends on what format you'll be reading.
Epubs and shit that can be converted to that properly? Just get a Kobo or a Kindle, the former generally being superior to the latter.
PDFs? You'll likely want a Likebook or Boox product, just because of the fact that you'll need a better CPU to handle scanned PDFs, as well as the fact that a larger screen would be beneficial. If you can handle a smaller screen for PDFs, a Boox Poke 3 would probably do the job.

Pocketbook. Runs on Linux, can add custom fonts and dictionaries easily plus a couple of third party apps like koreader.
For epub, a 7in screen is enough. For PDF, djvu and some small print university books, get the 10.3in model.
