I'm ruined by classics.
>"grew up" reading classic lit
>my writing is somewhat antiquated with florid prose
>i want to write stupid dumb horror but cant demean myself making my prose stupider / current day
Am I gonna make it? How do you retrain your writing?

What's wrong with writing horror in the classic style? some of the best horror writers write that way. Ann Radcliffe, Edgar A. Poe, H.P. Lovecraft ect...

The problem is those writers already exist, and you are not one of them. Nobody in current year wants to read florid shit from an unestablished literally who.

If you don't respect/love your genre, writing in it will be tough. For example, fantasy authors aren't writing what they consider works for manchildren. They legitimately love and see the genre as the best of lit. I'd suggest getting over this hangup where you see horror as dumb.

I dont see horror as dumb. Its my passion. I see shit writing though, like everywhere. All the current year, top-rated horror generally have pedestrian prose.

Cheers man

This guy gets it. I see a lot of hate for that type of style, too.

Cheers lads

Maybe you could try writing a horror but not call it a horror. This sounds really stupid, I'm sure. But why do you have to limit your work by confining it to one genre? You could write stories you like that have horror elements blended with others. I feel like your prose would fit perfectly then.
