Get the Classics of Western Spirituality version, it comes with a great historical introduction for context. Makes you realise how blurry and political the practice of deciding who's orthodox and who isn't actually is

Odilon Redon has been my favorite artist since high school!

one of his works actually gave me a spiritual experience last year. i went to the art institute of chicago and was looking for his famous painting of flowers all day. it was my desktop background for years and i had a print hanging on my wall, it's an important painting for me for a number of reasons, but i was increasingly frustrated as i couldn't find it. finally, one minute before it closed, i found turned the corner and saw it, and experienced a momentary satori.

my other two favorite artists are Goya and El Greco but I think my favorite painting overall is Da Vinci's annunciation, as I have been getting more into angelology as I develop my ritual magic practice.

I can see why Tang emperors were disgusted with this filth. Those who worship the human form, with all its fleshy protuberances, will never grasp infinity. Golden Age Illustrators like Kay Nielsen, Maxfield Parrish, Walter Crane, Beatrix Potter, etc. blow this shit out of the water. You have vapid tastes.

What's so great about this? It's way too fleshy. When people feel attraction, it's rarely to like a fleshyness.. It's more to like a kind of ethereal image in one's mind. Russian lacquer is much better than this filth.

You have peasant trash tastes and sensibilities, you follow the tastes of the masses because you want to come off as cultured, but you just come off as insipid. Here is an example of a well-drawn woman.
Why don't you go to a brothel and take photographs of sweaty women if you're so obsessed with a sense of realism..
