What are some good novels with themes of positive family values, "traditional" morality, self respect and dignity etc? real "anti-degeneracy" if you will

and I dont necessarily JUST mean real boring PG rated stuff where nothing degenerate happens, just that the overall themes at the end of the day lean towards these things. Also I have already read Dostoevsky

I just want a break from the type of media my life has been completely saturated with from birth. reading something that deviates from the hypersexualized grittiness and edginess and nihilism I have been bombarded with since birth is like a breath of fresh air. surely there are times when you find than being submerged in that kind of content all the time everywhere you look to be tiring, no?

There are tons. Go on project gutenberg.
The problem is that you won't find any of them interesting because you're actually searching for vapid entertainment, not self-fulfillment, and you want your entertainment to match your ideals, instead of living a life working towards those ideals.

Read Fathers and Sons, it effectively gives you a novel of tradition and progress pitted against one another. It's a fantastic book.

The works of Willa Cather are about pioneer families in Nebraska who through hardships find happiness. "O Pioneers!", "The Song of the Lark" and "My Ántonia". Her later works, such as "A Lost Lady" and "The Professor's House" tackle a more critical angle in which she denounces how the new spirit of commerce is consuming and destroying tradition. If you are not against reading female authors she'd be a good choice for you.

It's a children's book, but "The Animal Family" by Randall Jarrell.

>> No.17881562

>>17881553
"This story by Jarrell is gentle, mythical, and stands the test of time. A short story about a solitary hunter on an island, who meets a mermaid, and together form a family with animals they meet. The tone is warm and soft, kind and at times bittersweet.

While perfect for bedtime, cold or rainy days, this book is appealing to me even as i grow older. The subtle lessons about companionship, newness, differences, loneliness, loss, and joy are not forced to the fore. Rather, an old-fashioned sense of creating an environment as a way to tell a story is key here. Inviting wilderness, homely relationships, and just enough magic and mystery to compel the story forward.

One of my most treasured books since i was a young child, the is a timeless and infinitely re-readable story." <- from an Amazon review

im not "retreating into the past with rage" dude i have goals and things i am working towards, and there are times when the best thing for reaching those goals is to just sit down and occupy my time with something that makes me feel at least momentarily comfortable and content.

im just trying to be clear that as far as im concerned something being wholesome and good or whatever does not necessarily mean it does not feature unwholesome things. dostoevskys works (that I have read so far) for example have all sorts of murder and degenerate behavior and unpleasantness, but are ultimately positive and uplifting.
