I hate that bookstore so goddam much. If you're in Paris and want an English book you should rather go to either San Francisco Book Co. or to the Abbey Bookshop (picrel), both of which are nearby.

Nice Americanish way of thinking, faggot. Why don't you reduce your view from the panoramic landscape of the market to the sphere of your individual wants? If you enjoy entering an antiquarian/historical bookstore and collecting beautiful, sturdy leather-bound editions, just do it. I bet these places fail because of that obtuse mindset.
>why should I invest in failing business models
It's not financial trading, you absolute imbecile. Also, even with the p(l)andemic I don't think these stores are going to disappear. Some will close, but you have to realize that most people love to frequent small cozy independent bookstores, rather than corporate Amazon-like malls. No one likes that shit. Sooner or later there will be a new opening of tiny local bookstores, at least in Europe.

It's sad we have to engage in these cynical debates even when the thread is just meant to enjoy some lovely pictures.

yeah, but that's the thing. they can sell online for x $ from a cheap storage, but if they have a store they must sell x $ + money for rent and employees $ or they go broke, which is why stores will be a thing of the past. zoomers will never pay for in-store talk and recs.

It's part of the problem. The real thing is that it was obviously designed as a tourist trap because they sell overpriced coffee, tote bags and shit like that. It looks nice on picture because it was made to look nice on picture, it was designed with instagram in mind. It's a coffee-house that sells books. On the upper floor there are antique books but you will barely be able to find anything interesting, it's purely a decorum. The clerks are mostly clueless about what they are selling. The philosophy and poetry are a joke: they're small, which is not surprising, but more importantly they look as if someone who never read anything ordered the books. The population is mostly made of tourists and Parisian art hoes which is the only good thing about the store

one of my worst fears, I used to live a couple blocks away from there but got the fuck out of DTLA before shit really hit the fan; the starbucks a block away was absolutely decimated (every window smashed, furniture destroyed or stolen, everything raided) and were many other businesses along with the corner store and smoke shop. Seeing some of the old places I used to frequent just absolutely destroyed in news clippings felt surreal. Thankfully it seems like the bookstore is okay based on their website, I have a feeling the peaceful protestors were more interested in pillaging the flagship air jordan store (you know, to stick it to the corporate entities that have been profiting off african american cultural appropriation obviously, or something)
