Philosophy/prose is for autists

Majority of posters on 4chan are autists so that's why many anons don't read poetry.

Who?

I know one from Austria who became a lover of his own sister, then developed a morphine addiction, to aid that addiction he perused pharmacy in the university and as a career, severed on the front line as a medic, tried to kill himself because of all the misery, got hospitalized but his depression got worse, wrote a letter to Wittgenstein but killed himself by overdosing on cocaine the night before his arrive.

Speaking of Trakl I found this copy of his poems at my second hand bookstore (translated by Lucia Getsi) and maybe I don't get it, or its a bad translation, a lot of his poems are mostly just describing nature? I don't know... it's beautifully done but I can never quite connect to them other than seeing them a lovely descriptions.

No one reads poetry. Nice list though, much better than the top novels.

>> No.17871963

>>17871815
For Heidegger, Trakl was just as much a poet-prophet as Hölderlin. Across all his poems of the middle and late periods there is a web of cross-references and symbols that live a double life beneath the surface. The easiest way to see this is through the language of color.

For example, a poem might start like this (and I have to summarize it roughly without subtlety, I am not a poet): Red is established as the color of the hunt and violence. White occurs in association with "the cold, decaying moon." Blue is an idyllic water spring in the night and a symbol of hope. Black is the colour of death. In the last stanza, the black wing of night descends on the boy's forehead and snow falls from purple (blue/red) clouds. Heidegger labored over something like that with interesting results.

The language of color, as I said, runs through all the poems, becoming ever richer and more multi-layered. Hard to translate, I guess.

Do you happen to know how Heidegger perceived Char and Rimbaud poetry? I only have a superficial knowledge of Heidegger but I know he was really buddy with Char who made him discover Rimbaud. Here a small text (poem?) in French by Char on the death of Heidegger:

>Martin Heidegger est mort ce matin. Le soleil qui l'a couché lui a laissé ses outils et n'a retenu que l'ouvrage. Ce seuil est constant. La nuit qui s'est ouverte aime de préférence.

I only read Eliot and I love Eliot. Haven’t read any of the others, but thanks for the recommendations, I’ll check them out.

The 20th century poets I’m referring to are the kind that are usually heartless as the “best” of the era. Like Ashberry, Berryman, Pound, Auden, Cummings, Stevens, Crane. Their language is masterful, their images are profound. I’m sure there are plenty of “ideas” if one were to dig deeply enough into their symbols. But there seems to be some sense of content lacking. In other words, the aesthetics are placed significantly higher than the ideas. Significantly.
