Why do Christians assume that eternal life is a good thing?

I want nothing but to cease to exist after I die.

You would be cleansed of the craving for such things, which would be better for you than having a desire for those things even if you can fulfill it

Of course you could just meditate and arrive right now at the point of being free from desire (including the desire for annihilation). It sounds like what you're choosing to do now is live for what you desire, which is what makes existence for you seem hellish.
