I think the novel is a lot less complete than everyone else seem to believe. The mood seemed very light to me (absurd and incomprehensible, but still quite comedic) and the gap between the last and second to last chapters is jarring. I almost expected him to be flogged with rubber chickens at the end instead of callously and brutally executed.
