I find having an inspirational goal motivates me to do the activities required to reach it, but I do not know how to incorporate reading into a life goal? Setting a goal of reading X number of books is hardly motivating and a little psued. Should I set a goal of becoming an expert about a niche topic? Also, I think that reading too much philosophy makes you an over analyser.

I used to feel the same way about philosophy until I actually got into it. Now I find it helps me think things through more clearly because I have other people’s paths of reasoning as like a point of reference, which I can use to reach my own conclusions. Whereas before, when I wasn’t into philosophy, I could only go off my own beliefs and thought patterns which often goes in circles and leads to the jumbled overthinking.

As for staying motivated, for me I like book clubs. Or even if it’s just you and one other friend reading the same book and having regular discussions. I agree that setting a number goal with reading is unfulfilling, but I also think maybe seeing reading in itself as a means to an end may be the problem? Rather than just enjoying it as a healthy personal hobby or a learning experience you can share with other people

from what i have determined is that motivation is a scam. It is all pure will in my opinion. Lack of motivation is the lie we tell ourselves for when we are tired.
