I just finished reading the great gatsby and I have a paper to write about how this book is a great american novel.

I seriously have no idea how to answer this question because all I see this book to be about is the story of some rich guy trying to get with this girl and the big mess ups that occur in the process.

can anyone fill me in on this? im normally really good at understanding the meaning of a book, but this one just seems like another cheap drama novel.

It's representative of America in the 1920s. It's filled with symbolism. Focus on the green light and the billboard.

Pretend it's a Bret Easton Ellis novel only written in the 20s and all will be revealed
