Just finished this. Some truly polished prose but the absolute self destruction made it hard to read at times. Strong desire to visit Mexico again and have a tequila. What did you guys think?

Great, beautiful, prose.
Darkest ending of a book I know.
Somehow less depressing the second time round
1/3 in I gave up reading all the notes on references online unless it seemed crucial to the plot
I love how all the references, the symbols are linked to the consul personally

The ending reminded me of Journey to the End of Night's, except the Consul is really just egging the faux cops on.
