Would reading the Marx-Engels reader be enough to understand Marxism?

I'm pretty rightwing, and I'll be perfectly honest and say that Leninists are alright in my book. They don't have the obnoxiousness or nu-maleness of the modern libertarian/anarchist leftists. Their writings are actually interesting, compared to the trite whining of Western leftists who seem to exist only to steal leftism from anyone who might've supported America's enemies in the cold war.

I'll always maintain that tankies are at least somewhat respectable because they see the problems of leftist ideologies and simply embrace them and use them to their advantage instead of pretending the problems dont exist and pointing fingers everywhere while avoiding any sort of critical analysis of their own religion and spouting "its not REAL leftism!"

Their ideas also seem much more in line with what Marx and Engels were saying, at least from what I've gathered. It seems fairly explicit that the state exists and directs the means of production in a socialist society; but the reddit-leftists don't understand the idea of the state as an Absolute which actualizes things in the Hegelian sense, which was then applied by Marx to the actualization of class conflict, and they don't understand how the state is supposed to naturally die out as something anachronistic rather than be immediately smothered in the revolution. Very obnoxious to just see leftists repeat "IT WASN'T REAL SOCIALISM. COMMUNISM IS A STATELESS, CLASSLESS SOCIETY." They're very obviously just antisocial-types using leftism as a vehicle to engage in degenerate and destructive behavior. I'd feel bad for the non-faggot socialists, but I'm too busy feeling bad about dealing with the exact same shit on the right.

i have read books that would be called "theory" but i would never say that "i read theory." it simply wouldnt occur to me. it seems like an ideological statement, just to talk that way

I don't understand the obsession of some scholars studying a niche subject, like historians who specialize in studying a very small time period like the Holocaust or the Year of the Four Emperors. You sacrifice breadth for immense depth in a tiny subject that almost nobody cares about. I think you'd be getting diminishing returns after the 20th book or so.
