Maybe something like Neal Stephenson's early "Zodiac: An Eco-Thriller" book?

Curtis’ work is more about powerful groups leading the public with idealism and dreams, and the unintended consequences that follow. Unlike a lot of conspiracy theories, the stuff he talks about is mostly public and documented. He does identify connections where there probably aren’t any though.
