sup /lit/,
started reading a farewell to arms yesterday. So far, it seems well written and very descriptive, but little to no purpose behind the story. Does this carry throughout the rest of Hemingway's writing, or am i just supposed to give it some time?

WITH THAT LOGIC, WHY READ FICTION OR NONFICTION AT ALL? WHY KEEP LIVING?

Keep reading Faggot, it just starts off slow.

lolwut?

Hemingway's writing is very much about relationships and the small events that happen within them. If he spends 200 pages writing about the mundane things that happen between two or more people, it's because those events accumulate into some final resting place.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Good golly.

i will concede, that part where he gets hit by a trench mortar genuinely got my heart racing.

I genuinely do not care for this book.

It's the only Hemingway novel I don't like.

maybe it reminds you of your own sexual inadequacy

I was straight up annoyed about having stuck with this book to the end. But I'm not big on Hemingway

I'm slowly gaining an appreciation for his short stories, but I still find anything longer than 50 pages nearly intolerable

Of course if past experience tells me anything, stating an opinion as bold as this will only meet with claims that it must be too deep for me. I'd like to stave this off (hopefully) by saying that I really don't care, I'm not going to magically change my opinion by hearing any glorious points you have about a book that made me want to stab the main female character for not having a brain and annoying the piss out of me

especially since it was just the book version of his story in 6 words
