Wasn't afrofuturism a thing before cyberpunk even existed as a genre? Parliament were big star wars and star trek nerds and but spaceships and shit on their album covers, that's where afrofuturism comes from. Cyberpunk didn't even exist until the 80s.

Afrofuturism is the cringiest LARP I've ever seen. Actual Futurism developed as an aesthetic expression of the ruthless technological progress of interwar Europe. Afrofuturism are these weird ugly sci-fi doodles like in OP's pic with three eye'd negresses in knock off Fremen suits, fucking marvel black panther fans, and cosplayers in the vein of 'just glue some gears on it and call it steampunk' but with random fake gadgets and wires on pseudo-traditional African clothing. Complete farce and emblematic of the a-historical nature of Black Americans. Whereas Futurism was an aesthetic expression of the people driving forward aeronautical, vehicular and industrial technology, Afrofuturism is pure LARP for a history they never had and a future they couldn't build.
