Torn between the cheapest Kindle model or the Kobo Libra H2O. is it worth the price? or should I stick with the basics

I've had no issues with the touchscreen. The refresh rate is quite low, but that is only an issue during setup. For normal reading it's great

The cheapest Kindle is pretty bad, as is the Kobo Nia.
Get a Clara HD or a user Paperwhite. You can get the Libra if you want a larger, more premium device but the Clara seems better for beginners.

Poorly built. (Like cheap and non sturdy plastic).

No external dictionary support.
No translator
No Wikipedia hyperlink (if that's something you value)

There are also some things about the Oasis that I don't think the high end Kobo has, like the red light warmness and other features.

Even the Clara HD has red light.
Have you ever damaged a Kobo that the sturdiness mattered?

If you want the biggest library you should get an Android based reader. That way you can access Amazon, Kobo and pretty much all other stores.

I don't have experience with Kindle but have had a Kobo Aura H2O 2 for 3 years now and love it except for 1 part: the outer right hand side of the touchscreen doesn't register if I click a button on the screen at that position. It works fine for flipping a page, it's an accuracy problem with registering the input

I pirate all my ebooks for what it's worth and it's really plug and play though you do need an account

I have a paperwhite but I don't like the small screen size and also how the backlight is bluish (so I don't use it at night). Is it worth upgrading? what else is nice about it? I mostly read physicals but if I liked my e-reader more I might do it more. Would be nice for manga too I assume (paperwhite is ok but a bit smaller than normal manga pages)

It's not about money, it's about convenience and not supporting an awful company that bans books left and right. Hardcover readers will call the paperback readers poor. The paperback readers call you poor. Seems like you're not even high in the hierarchy and book caste. How can you cope.

The Kobo Clara HD has Wikipedia support natively, which means any other modern Kobo does as well.
