what are everybody’s thoughts about Ayn Rand’s works and philosophy? I don’t know too much. i just started reading ‘Anthem’.

>> No.1770997

Everybody thinks she's an idiot. Randites don't count, they're not real people.

I'll reword your question for you OP.

Why does everyone hate Ayn Rand?

>> No.1771016

i got a book called capitalism the unknown ideal, and she just seems to ramble on and on in her books, i like that.

Ayn Rand discussion is in fact banned in /lit/ (how can ANYTHING be banned in 4chan, srsly?).

If you ask me, I don't agree with most of her philosophy (which is flawed and poorly constructed), but I still hate the fact that when anyone brings her up in a thread, everyone start talking shit about her and the randroids without actually backing up any of their arguments (or at least explaining why they think Objectivism is so wrong).

And OP, if you want to read Atlas Shrugged for the story, then go ahead. If you want to learn about Objectivism, however, you'd be better by reading ''The Virtue Of Selfishness'' or just John Galt's speech.

Fuck me. "The Virtue of Selfishness" is one long troll of a book. Surprised I got through it.

>> No.1771050

I don't agree with her philosophy but I enjoy reading the novels for fun. That's all there is to it, for me.

>> No.1771068

All i've read from her is Anthem, which was an excellent dystopian novel. Basically heard about her through Rush. Giving the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged a try this summer.

It's still the shortest and straight-to-the-point text about objectivism. (Anthem is more of individualism vs. collectivism)
