It can be considered that, when the proper prerequisites are held in the correct accord, it might be permissible to call OP a faggot.

Well, it can be untidy and some people use it when they want to sound sophisticated. If you're well-read though, you know where to put it properly, so you don't have to listen to such baby-tips.

Dogmatic opposition to the passive voice is stupid. It wouldn't have remained a feature of English for centuries if it had no good uses. Hell, even Orwell, in the passage of "Politics and the English Language" where he's condemning the use of passive voice, uses passive voice at least once.

kek I remember Wheelock's saying this too. Does German also prefer active constructions over passive ones?
>Haec femina nobis laudanda est.
>literal: this woman must be praised by us
>idiomatic: we must praise this woman.

thanks Wheelocks

>passive voice is bad
>show don't tell
I'm so fucking tired of this stupid ass advice parroted mindlessly by r/writing and their correspondents.
It's fucking called STORY-TELLING.
Yes, obviously just flat-out telling the entire story is boring and dumb, but showing everything is just as bad. Show what needs to be shown and tell what needs to be told. It's not fucking rocket science.
Then passive voice - if it sounds good to you when reading it aloud, then it's fine. Disregard the retards that run it through some dumbass voice-checker website and go "OHHH NO U R NOT A GOOD WRITER!!! I HAD TO LOOK AT THIS SITE TO SEE THIS ERROR BUT IT DOESNT READ RIGHT!!!"

Yeah, I still don't understand the hate. Why shouldn't one be humble enough to not think much about something? Is modern English teaching making us assertive so as to create the next generation of "activists," or something?

Show don't tell is much more than that
