A national emergency such as a surprise nuclear war occurs. They must remain inside the mall for their safety (there's radiation or something outside). Their only knowledge of the outside world comes through grainy emergency alerts on the old mall TVs. As the situation becomes more dire, people in the mall become more paranoid. People begin to form factions, horde food/water, and take over different areas of the mall. Some people try to leave the mall and they are never seen again. There are a few different ways this could be ended, such as the discovery that there was not really anything going on outside and it was just an illusion from the televisions; people have been killing each other like animals for no reason. If asked, this could be a commentary on how media manipulates human societies into committing atrocities that they never would have otherwise dreamed of.

my first idea was 3 friends are shopping at the mall in china where they are sucked into the escalator due to poor safety regulations and get crushed. Due to the three friends being sinful human beings they are all sent to a hell which shows their individual sins where they become better people. If you want a sad ending have them accept they belong in hell. if you want a cheery ending have the 3 friends wake up in the hospital or move on to purgatory or something. Idk you should probably steal someone elses idea i am tired and the whole hell thing is pretty generic anyway. I imagine this story would be rather easy to write though.
