No one would ever just 'pop out a Torah' because such a book does not exist unless you are referring to just the Torah scrolls used in Temples. There is the 'Chumash' which is a book form of a Torah scroll. It gets a little confusing because a Torah Scroll is the same as the Pentateuch, however there is then the Tanakh which refers to the Torah(scroll), Nevim and Ketuvim combined, but then "Torah" would also truly refer to the Tanakh along with the Mishnah, Zohar and the entire breadth of Jewish writings.

it can mean both, actually. the written torah, and the oral torah. when people say the torah they usually mean the first five books, when they refer to the oral torah they say the talmud.

yeah this is in the shulchan aruch but this is one of those point which poskim tend to pasken a bit more leniently on and even though it *is* actually there only people with extreme chumros tend to follow it. even religious jews are not always so machmir on this one except for like the extreme shtarkers who don’t much go out anyways. modox/devout conservatives etc. don’t adopt the same isolationist attitudes/fear of goyim.
