sailor who fell from grace with the sea probably or temple of the golden pavilion as the other anon posted, I recently finished life for sale which was a fun read but pretty different from confessions of a mask, you could also try some of the short stories

these 2 books are like reading the diary of a terrorist. you can relate to the main character of golden pavilion but sailor who fell from grace is absolutely perverse, made me feel dirty. I was reading that on vacations 4 years ago, when my family asked me what the book was about they looked at me as if I was a sick fuck for reading that.

The Temple of the Golden Pavilion is among his best if not his absolute best. I suggest you get into that book first.

Temple of the Golden Pavilion is in the vein of Notes From Underground, read that. I found it unapproachable, tbqh Lot of references to Buddhism and Mishima's morbid metaphysics, more so than in his other works. Also, it's disturbing as fuck. Distilled evil.

>What I expected
Even the Amazon reviews say it's about someone that would nowadays be an "incel" or a school shooters. You want Patriotism or Runway Horses, but Runaway Horses will require reading Spring Snow first.

does mishima really need a chart? all of his works are pretty short and if you just read them chronologically you'll have a better time.

I decided to pick up some of the books because of this thread. Your post made me google what Pavilion was about and the synopsis drew me in. I totally get what you mean by distilled evil now.
