I wouldn't say that I'm terrible at writing essays, I can put one together quite well. It's just that it feels like I'm just putting together bullshit and that I'm lacking in areas such as punctuation and grammar. I'd feel much proud of my work if I could completely relearn the basics of writing a proper essay (college level) or writing for academic purposes in general.

Already checked the wiki but didn't find anything about writing academic essays.

My professors tell me I have good ideas but often say too much and include too much irrelevant details. I can't seem to figure out what is and isn't relevant

The secret is:
>1 paragraph = 1 idea
If you have something to add to the idea you will develop on 1 paragraph, just add another paragraph below. At least, academically, writting like this is good; it teach you to develop a cascade-like argument.

There's a similar painting a few blocks from me, of one animal tormenting another. Every time I see it, it makes me smile.

It's a little difficult to make out what's going on: the monkey is forcing the cat's paw onto a hot plate, or stove surface.

NEVER trust a Sea Snipper. They are NOT bros and they WILL snip.

I knew I'd seen those lobster(s) before. Compare Kalf's gorgeous Still Life with Drinking Horn, which incidentally is reproduced near the center of Phaidon's The Art Book.
