The fact that "neurotypical" is a thing bothers the shit out of me. Like there's just people that are WIRED to be normal, and will never struggle with their mind whatsoever. Is there any evolutionary reason for neurodivergency? Is there a purpose to me being an autistic retard or is it just a faulty brain? Why the fuck are there so many neurodivergents? How the fuck do we still have neurodivergents after thousands of years of evolution?

I meant to post this on /sci/. Clean it up janny.

Neurotypicality is just mediocrity. The distribution of any trait follows a rough bell curve distribution, and the set point of a person with relatively few genetic mutations and developmental encumbrances will be towards the peak of that curve. Neurodivergence is caused by mutations and disturbed development, and yes the evolutionary reason is that mutation is the critical process that allows organisms to evolve in the first place

Oh, and as for your last question, the rate of mutation is high enough for it to non negligibly impact each generation

Anon...
Mankind existed as scattered bands of hunter gatherers for the vast majority of their time on earth, only about 1% of our evolutionary process exists after the creation of sharpened implements, half of that as "civilized" agrarian communities. What you describe as neural abnormality is merely the fallout of a species evolved for a certain set of circumstances cast into a radically different environment. We are talking millions of years of adaptation dashed against newborn modern amenity, which has lasted just a little over a century mind you(absolutely squat on an evolutionary scale) Fish in a lake evolve around a certain pH, when modern pollutants are introduced to the lake the acidity raises, fish are born with birth defects. In no way does this indicate a fallibility due to the evolutionary process of the fish, they merely worked with what was given, until this spoiler, the unprecedented genesis of intelligent life, suddenly did away with the even-paced racquet game of environmental change and genetic adaptation.
Here is a thought exercise on the opposite end, where, environmental circumstances outpaced species adaptation. When the Earth underwent significant geologic changes in temperature following the last of our planet's ice ages, species which had inured themselves to freezing cold were suddenly met with temperate, far more humid conditions, in which their thick pelts that they had so dutifully cultivated in times of vernal adversity became a detriment most severe - woolly mammoths and their developed hawsers were among the most disastrously affected. Under the smarting heat of an unobstructed sun they would gather by the lakes and large ponds of the Eurasian steppe, and greedily sip with their trunks extended until entire sources were rendered sapped, such was the sun an adversary to their luxurious pelts. Bodies of water all across the macrocontinent were fruitlessly gobbled down by a species which had up till then done everything right - you understand it don't you? You are the new mastodon, or perhaps the fish born with an extra fin. You were the normal that always was, until man asked itself that deleterious question, of what it was to be

i hate technology metaphors used for humans its annoying in itself but also always comes with reductive bullshit we arent "wired" to do anything

Reason: your childhood
Why it hasn't been eliminated by evolution: it's a byproduct of social life. Sometimes something minor goes wrong early in life and you go off the rails

"neurotypical" and "neurodivergent" is just leftoid newspeak.

okay but how does this answer OPs question?

It does not, but people make the mistake of assuming evolution is deterministic and has an end goal. It doesn't, mutations happen at random and if it doesn't kill you and you manage to reproduce it's going to keep being passed down, unless there's enough environmental pressure to select against it.
