Lads, I have just obtained a position which I may be under-qualified for. I start Monday. How do I train myself to become a good copy editor? I'm a better writer then most people, and I have experience reviewing other people's work, but I'm nowhere near as fast or thorough as my father (a former editor at a New York publishing house). My whole life I've run my briefs/reports past him. Now I have to be that guy.

I'm already reviewing our organizational style guide and the relevant books my father has given me, but I'd be happy to accept more advice. How would you all recommend I proceed? Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on getting the job. You are not underqualified. You got the job because your boss thinks you were the best of all the candidates. If he thought you weren't qualified, he wouldn't have hired you. You will get better on the job. There will be a learning curve. Take your time doing things and eventually you'll get faster at it. This advice is generally applicable.
