Everything in the bible is about how this life doesn't matter and that all that matters and that you need to look forward to is your reward in heaven. Everything on earth must be done for the sake of that to the point where you should live in misery, poverty, and squalor as it is easier to enter heaven as a poor man than a rich.
If this is so, and if you have faith in Jesus and the Lord, and the afterlife promised by Jesus to us and that he died for, then shouldn't you want to kill yourself to fulfill the promise of living forever in heaven with them even faster?
Also wouldn't it be better to do so in order to minimize your chances of sinning as well? Even if you should have absolute faith in the lord, I don't believe that having absolute faith in yourself is a requirement. You can't say with certainty that you will not sin tomorrow, therefore in order to avoid doing so wouldn't it be better to die today? After all, these isn't much more important than not sinning.

I don't really get how a large thirst for death isn't what you should take away from all this.

even faster =/= even better
>you should live in poverty
you should live in such wealth, which does not overwhelm you
>there isn't much more important [thing] than not sinning

Nihilism involves the rejection of objective value, and since God literally cannot be mistaken about anything, his perception is what's objective, and thus Christianity is not nihilistic.

As a faithful Christian you should be spreading the word of the gospel, not focusing on your own redemption

That's the problem of the contemporary interpretation of christianity, if one religion focus on the rewards of the heaven it quickly becomes nihilistic, a cult of the dead.
Instead if one knows that there isn't an afterlife then the only way to go, is to make the most of life, to try to create a heaven for all of us on earth.

What you do in this life matters, but this life doesn't matter. It's just a pointless stepping stone to heaven and the less you have to endure it, the better because
1. compare to what you are looking forward to, it's full of suffering and bad people who do bad things
2. the more you do, the more likely that one of those things is going to be sinful and then whoops you just ruined your soul for all eternity
The way things are laid out, you have absolutley no reason to not wish for it to be over and done with as soon as possible (after you're baptized). And that's even if you're living a very happy and sucessful life, because of course being with Godand Jesus in Heaven is a better life than anything you could achieve on Earth.

>Everything in the bible is about how this life doesn't matter
Really? Is that why Jews fought centuries to live this life on a particular piece of land? Is that why they autistically try to live every aspect of their life in a divine way? "This life doesn't matter" doesn't kick in until late New Testament and even then it's relative to how much infinity matters.
>shouldn't you want to kill yourself to fulfill the promise of living forever in heaven with them even faster?
No, the point is not to die. The point is to live valuably and then through this necessarily temporary value buy a value that's beyond time.
>Also wouldn't it be better to do so in order to minimize your chances of sinning as well?
This is in line with antinatalist analysis, where fixation on avoiding negatives is key. It's not about avoiding negatives. It's about building positives.

>> No.17637121

>>17634699
The point of life is not avoiding sin, sin is inevitable. What you must want to do, out of love for God, is to muster the little goodness you have been given to work good in the sight of the Lord, before you go down to the dust to await the resurrection.

Yes, this does mean that life is a tiresome battle with sin, and one we often do not win, but with Christ who bought you, all things are possible.

How is giving fish better than giving fishing rods? Charity is often preached but there are two types and most people give the inferior product even when it'd be better if they saved up a little longer to give a fishing rod than a supermarket fish. I guess in the end they're both the same. Thoughts?

This life is nothing more than the setting for a test, it has no end in itself. It is not something to enjoy and the certainty that you will leave it in what a relatively infinitesimally short amount of time and it's inferiority to what (you at least hope) will come after diminishes it's value to drastic levels.

Wrong. The Old Testament doesn't refer to heavenly rewards. It's about how abiding by whatever convenants God pushes on you leads you to earthly rewards (like winning wars) and breaking convenants leads to earthly punishment.

Life matters A LOT because it's a test
Your short life on earth and what you do in it determines your eternal status

Heaven and Hell aren't democratic equalitarian places, they are perfect meritocracies, everybody will get a different degree of glory, or a different degree of punishment, and that is determined by what you do during your short life.
