Why’d he write it? It is quite a well written book which expands on Machiavelli’s ideas, along with his contemporaries, but something always seemed off with both the book and the author.

It's probably that you're seeing a very articulate, educated man write something that a Mike Cernovich or a Scott Adams would write.

Yeah, it was quite amazing to see a man perfect the Machiavellian dialectic, excuse me if I’m wrong, but a very consistent statement, thesis and example, possible antithesis, and what can be gained from the truth or conflict was quite masterful (though a bit oddly reasoned in a few sections). Despite this, it all felt much too rudimentary and simple (despite it being extraordinary complex), which I’m sure is why it is popular amongst gangs and prisons.

it's a retarded, contemporary self-help tier muh meaningless and narrow office politics version of the pocket oracle and the art of prudence (which addresses all areas of life, with subtlety that this retard misinterprets and gives bad advice). a true machiavellian book from 370 years ago.

Most of the laws listed are things that are so obvious that I'm sure most people do them already, consciously or not.
