Can we have an art thread? Who are your favorite artists?

Bonus points: Post an artist that is not exceptionally well-known and why you like his work

Peter Paul Rubens
Overwhelmingly powerful genius.
Seen this one in person. The pic attached does not do it justice, you have to see his work yourself.

My favorite is definitely Edward Hopper. He's not so crazy and out of this world in terms of subject and talent as some of the other artists mentioned in this thread, but I've always really liked him.
I've always been drawn to art and literature from 1930s America. I love Steinbeck, Ansel Adams and others and I just find the Dust Bowl to be absolutely fascinating.
I appreciate Hopper's realism and simplistic depictions of Americans and the ambiguous emotions of the people and scenes he creates.

While I don't really stop to look at good quality art as often as I should, I am most drawn to works of Vlaho Bukovac and Bela Čikoš Sesija. I've managed to see the works of the latter live, they are definitely very impressive.

Any literature regarding art?
Painting as an artform has grown on me after discovering a few of William Blake's work. The Ancient of Days, The Sun at his Eastern Gate, and Albion Rose in particular (pic related).
There's something profound among this three but what really drawn me towards them is how the radiance of the background encompasses the sovereign, and the vibrant energy of the subjects. It resonated within me that it had lit my interest towards art and the divine

I like the Skagen artists, PS Kroyer and Anna Ancher in particular. At their best, they convey a quiet reverence and wistfulness that I find highly aesthetic. Aesthetic distance; art about life about art. Something like that.

This one is Kroyer.

At Close of Day is such a vibrant green that it comes across as a photoshop of an original piece with the color balance adjusted too intensely.

Moonlight on the other hand looks superb, and the rocks in the background are both immense yet subtle while the foreground doesn't intensify the natural colors to become something unnatural looking.
