Will philosophy ever be finished? I don't think it will be, because you can't write down truth.
Initially the goal of philosophy was to reach enlightenment aka the ultimate truth, which isn't achievable through reading, it has to be experienced. Plato understood this and that's why he didn't try to explain enlightenment, but asked questions that would guide one towards this.
Reading modern philosophy apart from the traditionalists is pointless, because you'll never find enlightenment through their texts, since that's not something they can achieve.

I see, that makes sense. Would you equal the process of reading philosophy to practicing the mindset of philosophy or is there something more to it than just reading philosophy?

philosophy is something you experience within you through contemplating on your life experiences. Reading philosophy exposes you to new ideas, but being a philosopher requires active contemplation.

>>17578645
Agreed. Would you agree then that Plato does a better job at inducing contemplation by asking questions rather than modern philosophers who try to offer a solution?

This but unironically. Every modern day academic should be brained over the pavement.

Also this, the reason the Philosophical tradition is dead is because no one actually lives the life they believe should be lead.

Nietzsche was the most advanced thinker in history and the closest to reaching anything one could call truth. There are only interpretations produced by out-of-equilibrium localized maximizations of the will to power that exist relationally with all other possible configurations of localized, maximized and relational energy centers which make up the will to power. Time is a function of this dissipative, out-of-equilibrium system and so is life, with death being a function of total and universal equilibrium. Knowledge is possible only on the basis of belief in being, logic can only handle what remains the same, and consciousness is predicated on the necessity of illusions. "At the end of all knowledge mankind will have come to know—its organs" (Daybreak §483). Life is thus the will to power and nothing besides, with the extension of gulfs and the enlargement of wars a means by which the will to power is increased, discharged, increased again, and so on. The proper concern of life is the body rather than the soul and the proper task of life is to create art born out of greater and greater struggles.

The body is good.
Power is good.
War is good.
Destruction is good.
Technology is good.

The soul is a euphemism for the body.
Weakness complements power.
Peace is merely an intermission in war.
Creation is the first step towards the glory of destruction.
Complexity in the biological is reflected in the technological.

>Will philosophy ever be finished?
Philosophy has already ended. Will to power was its final conclusion.

What is so great about them, exactly?
Have you conceptualized this or is it merely an aesthetic thing for you since they’re old and old = good?
