Of course to humans (and animals which are sexually dysmorphic, or animals which aren't but whose sex we know) only masculine and feminine pronouns must be used, no gender neutrality at all. If sex of a person is unknown (i.e. someone is knocking on the door), it defaults to male like in all good languages

As for animals whose sex is unknown (e.g. a cat on the street whose crotch you havent inspected), use "it (animate)"
