just a reminder that two new boards have been made recently: one for fucking "virtual youtubers" and another for "professional wrestling" but when a thread was made saying that /lit/ needs to be split into a "philosophy and political theory" board and a "general fiction and literature board" the thread was moved to /qa/ by the jannies and died almost immediately

the former two boards obviously have more content, enough to warrant separate boards. there isn't enough content a complete split from philosophy and rhetoric would turn this board board into /tv/ with books, and the philosophy board would be various tripfiends trying to start cults. this current board is for the best

every time this has to be explained (>>17564527). it's a bad idea that would make both subject areas less well discussed and frankly board splitting would kill /lit/ and complete the transformation into reddit/corporate internet

The problem is that /his/ and /pol/ should be taking a lot of the load off of /lit/, but /pol/ is so fast that basically only bait and soundbytes can exist, and /his/ isn't good for talking about specific authors or direct literary conversation. Considering that they made /bant/ so that they could kill all the fun threads on /pol/ by moving them to a board with no archive, I don't see why they couldn't make a /pol/board that's more topical than current-events related.

My suggestion is to break off humanities from /his/ and put it in a new philosophy board. Then make a political science board. Another nice addition, but less important, would be a Religion and Occult board. Religious and occult discussion is everywhere from /r9k/ to /lit/ to /his/ to /pol/ to /x/, and it'd be nice to have it contained.

As long as these shitty new boards keep getting made, and /i/ keeps existing, there's no excuse for having more boards even if they receive very little traffic. If anything that's all for the better. We need /phil/ and /rel/.

A real issue is the people on /his/ are just legitimately not that intelligent, so people started just posting /his/ threads on /lit/ with a book related to the question so they could get an actual discussion going.

And /pol/ is beyond dead at this point, /b/ 2.0, so now people from /pol/ who have not killed themselves are spending time reading theory and taking the /lit/pill instead.

why do Nietzsche, Evola, and Jordan Peterson get so many threads here? what is it about them?

You make a good point. I've noticed such an intense stratification of intelligence on 4chan since around 2016. Topical boards might have naturally been "smarter" in the sense that their users all had more familiarity with the topics being discussed; but all the people who are talented, intelligent, or are simply oldfags have gotten buried under the mud slide of absolute retards. The transformation of /r9k/ in particular surprises me. As bad as /lit/ is, it admittedly has more smart people than other boards. Whether someone is a Marxist or a /pol/fugee, they're better able to argue and present their ideas on /lit/ than on any other board. I don't know why that is. I don't know what has insulated /lit/ so much. /lit/ has changed over the years, it used to be more leftist, but it really bucked the trend by avoiding that sharp qualitative decline 4chan has underwent since 2016.

because the board is based around something that requires time and focus & also because its a slow board where retard posts are (normally) met with derision

This shit is disappointing. I routinely see posts in all these spam threads unknowingly positing Nietzsche's own arguments against him, not realizing that they're fighting a straw man that they picked up from who the fuck knows where. His philosophy is much more positive than any of them seem to believe and actually sitting down to read and understand him would probably relax and motivate a bunch of anons to live better.

>> No.17565406

>>17565022
Idk. It seems perfectly possible for the retards to just spam so much and ignore regular /lit/izens that they overtake the board. Especially with wikipedia or youtube-tier knowledge.

The point is to make /lit/ a slow board again, who the fuck cares if a philosophy board is slow, it's should be slow to encourage discussion. The "everything is philosophy" shitposting is what's killing discussion on this board.

There is an effort thread up right now with only 7 posters. Rare literature quotes in it.
99.9 percent of the posters on /lit/ are the problem. And fiction posters are just as bad as the nietzsche spammers with your dfw, joyce, and youtuber spam.
