If books make you so smart, then why do bookworms rarely make money? Perhaps if a bookworm didn't waste all their time with their head in books they could actually do something productive and make money. In fact, it seems many bookworms are actively miserable, depressed, even suicidal at times. Reading in excess appears to cause misery and suffering. Bookworms, why not stop reading and focus on a different aspect of reality?

Well for example, if you're an investor then it certainly helps to have the necessary wisdom to predict price movements and act accordingly.

Money is inefficient. If I take a page of any random book and cut it to the size of a 1 dollar bill, 99% of the time it will have more text than a dollar bill.
Also most money just has the exact same words on it. "E pluribus Unum" yeah I get it

I would predict that people with more money than average have also read more books than average.

When you read enough you don't acquire an expensive woman and thus don't need to acquire as much currency to keep said woman's nagging in check.

You're either smart or you're not, it's not something you can change

Having money does not mean you're smart either. It's very American this idea that rich people are better, smarter, fitter, happier, etcetera.

Many intelligent people do not value material possessions that much. Charisma has more to do with making money than intelligence anyway. The ability to make connections and woo people is relatively independent of intelligence. Occasionally you get a person who is both traditionally intelligent and charismatic but such individuals are not the norm.
