I am noticing I some things in common with the underground man, but it's not as bad I expected. I'm solitary and not ambitious but I'm not as neurotic as he is. I don't hold a grudge, because I just don't care. But I do have some sympathy for his opinions about people, for better or worse (it's for worse).

It's alright, not really what I thought it would be, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Not much has happened in the first 150 pages or so that I've read so far, but I've just got to the bit where Steerpike starting acting retarded to try and win over Luschia so things will hopefully pick up from there. The whole Dickensian feel of it all is very nice, and the prose is good, which is the main thing I've seen people praise it for, but I wouldn't say its anything that especially good, and I've felt that many passages have been really overwritten and overdone, which for me makes it quite tiresome to read. Still pretty decent book so far tho, and I've enjoyed the couple of poems that have been in there so far, just really nice and simple and that
