REMINDER: If you ever struggle to maintain interest in a book, if you need to be in the right "mood" to read, if you need a lot of mental effort to switch between different activities and reading, then I'm sorry but you're a poor reader.

If someone told me to read a book about something I have absolutely no interest or knowledge in, like say the history of metallurgy, I'd be able to immediately sit down and read that book for several hours without letting my mind wander once, recall details and chapter outlines perfectly, make a critical analysis of its themes and characters, explain what I've learned to others eloquently, discuss the topic with with people of the field, and by the time I finished it I'd probably have developed an appreciation for the field of metallurgy because I have a curious and inquisitive mind that is always stimulated by the gain of new knowledge and the charting of new territory. This is what being a skilled reader is, and I am a skilled reader. Be more like me.

Well yeah, having ADHD tends to make one a poor reader. I'm not too proud to admit that. I still read when I'm in the mood however, because in those times it's worthwhile.

You would think so yourself of course, but words are ultimately just pointers to experiences people have had. Unless you are reading a truly one of a kind masterful writer you would be missing common pertinent experiences to truly understand.
