F. Gardner destroyed this board. It was in decline, but recent events caused the board implode. This is due largly in part to user paid ads, and also in part to zoomer culture's obssession to be extremely ironic to the point of it being detrimental to society.

Because they're kindle ebooks. There's no printing costs, so it's really hard to justify a high price. Plus his books are shit, so if they weren't 99¢ people would be demanding refunds and he would get deplatformed.

Gardner's "success" on /lit/ only demonstrates how far this board has fallen. It shows /lit/ is not a place to seriously discuss literature. Rather /lit/ is an irony-laden board meant to churn out memes for the lowest common denominator who "think" they are literate. Nearly every thread on this board is facetious and meant to generate (You)'s or be some form of "ironic" comedy. The board has become trash entertainment for those who pretend to an image of literary pretensions. It's sad and a farce. Gardner is the final slap in the face I will take. I can't stand it anymore. I've tried to generate REAL discussion around novels, but the userbase has degenerated so much it's impossible. Every serious thread is attacked because being contrarian for no reason is "heckin epic", or offhand facetious comments are made in a desperate attempt to become the meme of the week. Not to mention stale formulaic Youtube tier comments are copied and pasted on this website everyday. Every thread is the same. Gardner is a new fad of an old hat. Fuck you. Fuck Gardner. Fuck what this board has become.

I only started coming here like 4 or 5 years ago and I thought it was a shit show of (you) baiting then, but good God was it better than it is now. My last meaningful discussion here was 3 years ago while the board was slow in the small hours of the morning. I haven't added a book I've discovered on lit to my to-read list for a few years because it's always meme recommendations, posturing recommendations, or off-topic discussion in any thread that tries to discuss interesting topics or books.
Lurking sucks here, maybe that's why it's mostly contrarians and memes left now.
