Currently in the process of learning Syriac given its vast amount of poetical literature as well as liturgical. Does /lit/ have any preferences on their script, poem author or tips on learning resources?

What textbook are you using? How are you finding it so far?

Kiraz's Syriac Primer coupled with Syriac English Dictionary by Brock. His "An Introduction to Syriac Studies" helped me find it and guide me some through the field.
It's a very exciting language so far! The way vowels function and look is a bit difficult, especially since they are so small but I'm getting the hang of it. The difference between Ḥ and Y is giving me eye strain though.

I hope your not in academia. I would suggest ignoring 99% of "Syriac Studies"

So, uh, how are you going to get your hands on anything in syrian? Are you just going to browse websites with syrian text, like classicists use Perseus?

With Syriac you gain access to a vast amount of topics and a wide geographical region to read from. Its especially relevant if you are interested in off-shoots of historical Christianity like Nestorianism and other groups, but also works excellently as a bridge language as many Arab translators utilized Syriac when transcribing Greek text on philosophy, medicine, comedies, many of which are lost and only survive in Syriac formats. It also serves as a great language for poetry as it bases itself on syllable count, not necessarily stress or length, sadly not much has been translated as of yet. Notable people are Ephrem the Syrian and Jacob of Serugh though.
Syriac will also ease you into Aramaic, Hebrew or Sogdian if that interests you.

Really? Do tell me about that, because I am. Not enrolled in any Syriac study, but have been thinking about it.

there's enough re-prints around and the Vatican is slowly scanning their vault of Syriac texts. Some genuine Syriac script would be cool to see with my own eyes though.

also what differentiates the 99% from the 1%? Where do I find the 1% if so?

Here's a nice mosaic of Ephrem located in Greece which is interesting given his leanings towards Theodore of Mospuestia.

You get to read Nestorius’ ‘apology’ as it only survives in Syriac.

I wonder what's written on the scroll he's holding. I can only make out "makarioi".

I frequently visit this site for my own bible research. Seems to offer direction toward numerous resources.
https://www.dukhrana.com/

This is a notable database for looking up words and texts in the various forms of Aramaic.

Lastly Lexilogos has a searchable dictionary and Lexicity provides links to aforementioned resources and more.

Here are what accurate recitals of the Lord's prayer are supposed to sound like both in eastern and western Syriac vocalization respectively. Other recitals on YouTube are cringe.

I compiled a bibliography of important resources on Syriac that you might find interesting. Also, if you're interested in learning more about Syriac Christianity, you should contact this guy on Discord, as he and his team are going through multiple religious treatises written in Syriac.
"ok so we now have over 100 books to read on Syriac theology, mysticism, liturgy, history, language, apocryphal writings, and prayer, with stuff from the Maronites, Antiochian Syriac, Church of the East, and Assyrian-Chaldean traditions."
