17505123 No.17505123 [Reply] [Original]

How do we cope with the fact that we’re in a living hell beyond our control? A literal dystopia. An absolute mind-boggling terror to all those that have come before us, confounding even our nearest grandparents. It’s driving me mad. There’s no escape, most of us are ngmi. What’s the point? Any books on this?

OP here. Technically, I haven’t made many choices at all, and this is the problem.
I concur with the anon above, without the internet we’d all have been living fuller and happier lives, and yet it is now almost impossible to live a “full” normal life without it. We’re trapped, and the schizophrenic imagery of cartoons and late capitalist ads is forever etched into our chronically nutrient-deficient brains. Are we not flying in all directions?

Get off the screen and go /out/side.
Leave civilisation behind as much as possible even if it's only for a few hours. Being in the presence of god-made things instead of human-made ones, will reconnect your spirit to this non-artificial world. You will gain ultimate trust in your body and your mind when you let loose of technology and that's the only way to your soul and thus to the gods.
When you return to civilisation again you will suffer, but you will find it easier to disconnect from it and see it as necessary tools of this modern society. You won't depend on them as much, because you now know you can be happy and survive without them. Your connection to your soul and the gods won't be interrupted by civilisation and technology anymore.

>How do we cope with the fact that we’re in a living hell beyond our control?

Prayer is the only solace impotent creatures have, and yes, we're all impotent. Nothing is in our control besides the most immediate, transient things of life. Why else does /fit/ celebrate the acts of losing weight, or building a great physique? It's a desperate cry against everything they have no control over.

You are faggot.
Pessimism is an ancient Greek philosophy taught by the master of Dionysus, named Silenus.

>"You, most blessed and happiest among humans, may well consider those blessed and happiest who have departed this life before you, and thus you may consider it unlawful, indeed blasphemous, to speak anything ill or false of them, since they now have been transformed into a better and more refined nature. This thought is indeed so old that the one who first uttered it is no longer known; it has been passed down to us from eternity, and hence doubtless it is true. Moreover, you know what is so often said and passes for a trite expression. What is that, he asked? He answered: It is best not to be born at all; and next to that, it is better to die than to live; and this is confirmed even by divine testimony. Pertinently to this they say that Midas, after hunting, asked his captive Silenus somewhat urgently, what was the most desirable thing among humankind. At first he could offer no response, and was obstinately silent. At length, when Midas would not stop plaguing him, he erupted with these words, though very unwillingly: 'you, seed of an evil genius and precarious offspring of hard fortune, whose life is but for a day, why do you compel me to tell you those things of which it is better you should remain ignorant? For he lives with the least worry who knows not his misfortune; but for humans, the best for them is not to be born at all, not to partake of nature's excellence; not to be is best, for both sexes. This should be our choice, if choice we have; and the next to this is, when we are born, to die as soon as we can.' It is plain therefore, that he declared the condition of the dead to be better than that of the living."

– Aristotle, Eudemus (354 BCE)

I don't think they did, but I'm just assuming the OP is first world. I know some third worlders use 4chan, but even they are usually going to be better off than the actual poor in their countries. I figure the global poor is actually living in hell. I've experienced middle class existential dread, but as an adult I can't really claim I live in hell. My life is easy, it can just be boring. But the struggle of total poverty has to be hell.

I just need to know that we’re going to make it, bros. I saw The Last Messiah recommended, I’ll check that out.
To briefly address some of the earlier posts:
Sure, I live in material comfort, I’m not in a perpetual state of debilitating pain, and I can eat almost anything on a whim. For that I am grateful, and I don’t mean to downplay that. But we hear these things all the time, we in the first world know that we are blessed to live in this abundance - this is hammered into us from a young age, we have to be thankful to the neoliberal gods and New Dealers for securing such a prosperous and disease-free future for us, for saving us from those dastardly Nazis and fascists in the European Civil War. We know that.
It’s hard to envision a future for anyone with how bad things really are, that’s what I’m talking about. On every metric or qualitative-sense that is not founded on some dehumanizing premise, we see humanity sliding backwards and falling downwards, the simplest things have become a challenge. It seems like we’ve lost so many times in the last couple hundred years, and that we’ll only continue to lose, because simple induction tells us so.
