Does /lit/ skip the "forewords", "note's about the author" etc?

I want to read the book not a 100 pages essay shoehorned in by some faggot scholar.

>> No.17505018

if I know the basic plot and the first paragraph is interesting, then yes, otherwise no

was disappointed way too often by spoilers or full plot details in the foreword

Turns out it's kind of hard to talk about a book without talking about its contents

Yeah but I dont care what some niggerfaggot has to say about posthum Mishima, I went in all naive and innocent and came out jaded and bitter.

You read them afterwards, sometimes they have interesting background or analysis and they always assume you've read the text.

I go to /lit/ and wikipedia for that. I have zero interest in what some "scholar" has to say about it

>> No.17505125

I look down on people who save supposedly cringey screencaps to feel superior.

19th century writers are sitting out there waiting for you to read their aesthetic deliberations in the forewords! are you lit enough to read it or are you going to be the guy who comes here and asks for books about aesthetics "help me guys, just give me something less dry and academic than kant, it's a tough racket".

Are even one of these actually from that board or did someone just scour the internet for unfortunate looking men and put them in a collage that implies they're neonazis

Fuck you, I read the introduction to Moby Dick and got it fucking spoiled because some faggot wanted to talk about his personal experience with the book. I don't give a fuck about this guy's experience, but why punish people new to literature with your spoiling blog post? These faggots have an inflated ego.

Let's be honest. They would need a haircut, lift, lose weight, dress better, look more confident and even then some of them only be just presentable.

For fiction I've never read I skip any preface not written by the author at the time of initial publishing (including introductions made by authors in re-issues and especially anything added by a translator) but for non-fiction and fiction I've read before I read all the preface material
