What is the point of reading classics only in translation? As a poeta doctus, half of Vergil's art lies in his Alexandrinian reworking of his Greek predecessors, such as the acrostic referencing Arat's lepte in the first Georgic or the MARS acrostic in Aeneid 7.601-4?

I can't wait to get to it. When I first read the Illiad, I wanted to read everything from antiquity about the trojan war, but once I got into the plays, I changed plans and decided to read everything by the Greeks and then everything by the Romans and the Aeneid has been wanting patiently on my desk since.

Translation is a work in its own way. See Dryden's Aeneid, Chapman's Odyssey, Pope's Illiad, and Golding's Metamorphoses.

It's interesting how you're trying to show that Vergil's power is completely un-universal, found only in random stylistic details that are barely noticeable in a normal readthrough. Such autism will only further the decay of interest in the classics.
Pro tip: constructing an acrostic and making references to other texts is really not stuff that poetic mastery is needed for.
