I have never read a work of philosophy, beyond some Kant I had to read for my engineering ethics class.

You’re actually more qualified than most philosophy posters here, don’t worry.

Because they solved philosophy and humiliated an entire continent.

Because analytic philosophy is autistic and can't understand Hegel, Heidegger, etc

And legos are for millennials. Every generation gets sold some form of autism simulator.

anons Start with the Greeks but don't stick around long enough to make it to contemporary philosophy so the prevailing view on continental and analytic is just a received opinion echoing through the board since time immemorial.

I mean, what really is "analytical philosophy" anyway? Can you really just endlessly analyze authors over and over? That's absurd. This junk deserves to be filtered.

>>17495196
I’m what you would call a religious tradcuck and I believe you are better off starting philosophy with Nietzsche. maybe read the republic if you to but the greeks are a bit overrated imo

People like the very human feeling characters of continental philosophy. Analytical philosophy presents itself as dry and unimportant

This basically, it's just a meme from people who haven't read enough.
>>17495277
And this explains why one side wins over the other among the /lit/ midwits who haven't read enough.
>>17494728
Most of /lit/ hasn't read analytic philosophy. Some introductory analytic philosophy is actually pretty good introduction to a lot of very basic and perennial problems in philosophy, much as history of philosophy, but with some additional updates. Continentals literally don't talk about these things anymore. The problem is that analytic philosophy past that introductory level gets very specific, so if you're not into the topics, you won't dig in. Continental philosophy has broader appeal because it does critique. Everyone likes to sit in the armchair and critique society and culture. Not as many people actually like to sit in the armchair and think about the nature of causation, or the nature of the mind, or the nature of meanings, or the nature of possibility and necessity, or the nature of knowledge, etc. People on this board at most think someone long dead figured these problems out perfectly, so they close the lid on these problems ever after, which you should never ever do, every continental as well as every analytic would tell you never to do that, as would pre-divide historical philosophers. But /lit/ midwits don't know how to lead, they only know how to follow.
