Tourist here. In what order should I read The Divine Comedy by Alighieri?

>> No.17466681

>>17466650
I’m thinking Inferno, then Purgatorio, then Paradiso

>> No.17466683

>Inferno -> Purgatorio -> Paradiso
Why would you read it any other way?

>> No.17466701

I tried inferno when I was a dumb teenager and found it quite hard to follow to the point where it became a chore and I just got a new book from the library. Is it in fact difficult or was I just retarded?

Introduction to the Study of the Hindu Doctrines > Upanishads > Holy Bible > The Esoterism of Dante > De monarchia > Paradise > Inferno > Purgatory > Dream of Fair to Middling Women > More Pricks than Kicks > Echo's Bones

You have to read the Greeks, the Bible, then realize you haven't read the Middle Easterners and Indians, then you do Romans and only then can you read Dante as one ought to.

>> No.17466790

Most people only read Inferno and then LARP about reading the rest

>> No.17466838

>>17466650
Start with ‘The’, then let your eyes move left to ‘Divine’. After this you should be ready to take on ‘Comedy’.

It helps if you know alot about ancient greek and roman history and culture.

It's a little bit tricky if you're not familiar with the geography that Dante creates: a kind of funnel going down, with nine levels, with Satan at the very bottom (frozen in ice).

Each level further down, the sins are worse. He is accompanied by the guide Virgil, a noble, unbaptized pagan (thus not eligible to enter Paradise) who was one of Dante's great poetic inspirations.

This link shows several different artist's conceptions of the topography of hell. I think the first illustration may be the clearest (remember, you go from top to bottom): https://www.bldgblog.com/2005/10/the-topography-of-hell/

Once Dante gets through Hell, he climbs up the mountain of Purgatory, and thence to Paradise.
