I propose we start our own University for those who can't afford University.

I propose we give each other reading to do on certain authors then have written papers/Vocaroo/Youtube presentations to the community.

We could then have follow-up discussion groups on here.

Your thoughts?

I've wanted to do a Talmudic-style study of a non-Jewish book for a while now.

Like Thus Spake Zarathustra or something. It would be pretty cool. It's a great study method.

Never heard of nor considered that approach.

You can conduct your Talmudic seminar. I'm cool with that.

I will conduct a Pushkin seminar.

Aleksander Pushkin is the father of modern Russian literature.

He is of Russian and African descent.

In my seminar you will discover the flexibility of Russian language and how it has expanded since the influence of Pushkin. . You will explore a vital spark of poetry that continues to thrive at the highest level in Russia. You will have a greater understanding of the musicality of language through the analysis of form, rhythm, sound, energy and rhyme. You will learn skills that will improve your translation and recital of poetry.

There would only be 4 people at that university, because there are only 4 people on /lit/

Not Russian but Russian poetry translated into English.

Each day can be devoted to a detailed discussion of one or two texts.

There's quite a lot written about his work.

It's a nice idea but it's not going to work. Check out some youtube channels insteads.

Yale's got some pretty neat courses on the modern novel, critical theory, Don Quixote and Milton, not to mention some courses on the Bible (old and new test)

RSA makes short videos with sweet animation, great to watch high as fuck.

European Grad School has some great discussions of theory from "leading" philosophers and other intellectuals.

Everything that is taught in any university can be found on the internet, you just have to be disciplined and intelligent enough to teach yourself.

People aren't paying for the education as much these days as they are for the degree, a label to put on resumes and job applications.

>> No.1746636

>>1746617
Actually, I'm paying more for the discussions. There are some very intelligent and creative students at my university who make literature discussions way more enlightening than anything I could have done by myself. Or anywhere I know of on the internet.

>> No.1746646

I predict most "professors" will have no credentials and the whole thing will turn into an ego wank where people thrust their opinions down listeners throats.

But the idea is neat

You still need guidance, especically on the internet.

There's a shit load of really good blogs and websites that provide the same thing. Go to university if you can afford it and if you're dedicated and serious, but the same knowledge can be found on the internets.
