>When I die, reality will end for everyone else as well
Has any author addressed this concept? I have always thought this way since I was young, whole heartedly. I cannot determine where this belief originated, and as much as I know it to be absurd I cannot help but believe it. It crosses my mind often whenever the topic of death arises.
Am I just crazy?

Is that a death grips reference

Picture unrelated. I'm being serious. I have been to psychotherapy to address this but it's a compulsive way of thinking; I now only wish to understand it better, or at least it's origins/references in literature.

To an observer, things only exist insofar as it is a part of the observer's experience
Hence if an observer stops observing reality then reality no longer exists from the point of view of the observer

Yes I've thought about this before too. I don't know any philosophy related to it exactly. Look at Descartes and "I think therefore I am", maybe. What you are talking about is a concept called Solipsism.

Someone died yesterday, yet here I am.

yeah, for instance, 2-year old child doesn't understand the idea of hiding something because when it disappears from their sight it's like it doesn't exist anymore (maybe that's what they always want to see their mommy).
But at your age, I would say it's ultraegocentrism not so far from sollipsism.

Also kinda reminds me of that suicidal guy in Dosty's Demons. Kirillov or something.

This just sounds like the "logical" conclusion to solipsism to me

Your parents not giving you enough attention to feel important and integrated into the social order

Thank you philosophy bros, I'll check out Dotsy, and take a deeper dive into Solipsism, I'm familiar with the basics from Uni. Pardon my ignorance, this is far from what I study and I usually just read novels.
For your sake I hope my theory is wrong; I don't want to take you guys with me.

You're a giant loser with no accomplishments to speak of, but you also have a colossal ego, so to cope with your embarrassingly pathetic life, you cope by deluding yourself that the one thing that even you will do properly, that is to say: die, will finally be of some impact to the world.

As a random little side fact, I have basically been clinically dead before and the world went on as usual during the time I was "out".

Maybe you are right. In terms of 21st century western measures of "success" I am middle of the road. Beyond this anomaly I think and conduct myself reasonably, but have a poor understanding of philosophical thought beyond a superficial level. I do struggle to believe however that it's some deeply rooted cope, as it is completely abstract to the rest of my life, which further perpetuates my belief.
>>17463047
I went to a psych at age 21, 15 years after I first 'realized'. Do you really see this belief as "completely irrational"? Would most trains of philosophical thought come to the same conclusion?

Sounds like egocentrism and solipsism. Read pic related probably.
>>17462955
I'd have to agree here.
OP, try spending a whole week only doing actions for other people's benefit (or doingat least one thing a day for other people). Its just a habitual way of thinking. You need to focus on building new habits of thinking if you want to change.

Read Hindu texts, especially the stuff dealing with Maya.

Actually when you die everyone else exists. We're currently chained by your consciousness once you observe our nonexistence.
