do any of you actually seek out a café to read your books in. As a single guy the idea seems strange but its paraded around to me by multiple people in my literature circle. Does it help with the quality of your reading?

I don't seek them out, but I do read in them. My ability to focus is at it's best when I am surrounded by people quietly going about their business, probably a habit I picked up in school as I was failing everything because I was more interested in reading.

Yeah. I like to read while drinking coffee and it's a chance to get out of my apartment so I do it pretty regularly.

Before the Jews shut everything down I used to read in cafes, or write on my laptop. Even last summer I could sit outside a cafe and do so. Now the cold weather has taken away even this small comfort from me. May God blast the Chicoms from the earth.

I took the 'single guy' comment to be he has no reason to leave his home to read.

If you always read in the same place you will attract attention from the ladies, people get interested in the person who always there in the corner quietly reading. It is a fine balance, if you do not go often enough the servers do not get to know you well enough to just refill your coffee cup without the banter or even asking if you want a refill, but if you go to often the other regular customers get curious and start talking to you.

I go to read at my local watering hole. There's a good variety of bars but all the places that serve coffee around me are starbucks. They'e cornered the market. OP here you read into the 'single guy' comment correctly. I'm not interested in doing it to attract women I just approach them directly (turns out 'The Manual' was right). What I mean is I currently want to find someplace to be a "reading spot" that isn't my house or the park and am interested to know if I do that in a cafe do I attract attention.

The perfect situation would be to fine a nice place with decent coffee, cool wait staff that know me after awhile, and a handful of 'reg' that I can converse with on occasion.

No. It's noisy and there are endless distractions. The coffee is expensive and some cafes don't like a single person sitting there for hours only ordering a coffee or two. If you want to read outside find a local park.

I haven't tried that yet, mainly because I'm too cheap to pay for those overpriced coffees and teas. But I can recommend reading in a library, there are designated spaces and it's not as noisy as a café I imagine.
Also in the summer I think my local parks again would be too loud, but it should be possible to find a good spot. I have a garden for that, though.
In the end, we're going to have to wait for lockdowns to end anyway, and I wouldn't want to go to one of those places if I'm not there already for work or shopping or meeting someone anyways.

I have my comfy library pics on another drive, so have a Heidelberg drawing instead.

>> No.17423558

>>17418612
I could never find a cafe with good atmosphere for reading, most of the joints that serve coffee are actually just cheap bars with too loud music, those that put effort in interior are too expensive, but often the problem would simply be that whole place had too many people talking loud enough that it interfered with my concentration. I never really had the time and motivation to be Goldilocks and go wandering around the entire city in search of one that is just right.

The reason behind uncomfortable chairs is turnover. It's hard to make enough money on selling coffee in larger cities if you need to pay rent, employees, utilities etc.

Therefore they need to sell a lot of cups, so they need you to get your ass out of there so new customers can come in. There are exceptions though, and those coffee places are my go-to.

Have your dam coffee or coco and pickup on girls and get laid. You will never be smart if you larping, but if it feels good go ahead. yes. It makes you move you arse out of the house, which helps a lot with productivity overall. You also get coffee, which is obviously beneficial for reading. No distractions, no bullshit -- the only downside is money, but then you can just order an espresso and sit there for six hours
