Thinking of finally getting around to reading this. I'm somewhat new to reading literature seriously and I've still got a mild case of zoomer brain, but I know Dickens's style is supposed to be really dense/exhausting for some. What should I expect, /lit/?

It's a great book. Try it and see if you like it.
If you get bored and give up, try Tom Sawyer. It's short, easy, funny, and it gives you a colorful picture of life in 1800s America.

why don't you stop being a retarded zoomer and read the book before making a thread

nothing of substance if you're past the age of 11. If you want to get into lit, skip the old boring shit with British people just standing around talking.

i am telling you to close 4chan, stop posting about it and read the book instead.

that is kindling the love of literature if you actually had it. but you obviously don't.

Dickens takes effort but hes worth it. There are filler chapters in all his novels (fewer in Tale of Two Cities than most though) which can be frustrating and boring to work through - Dickens certainly didn't wait for a sense of inspiration before writing - but the brilliant passages more than make up for it, they represent some of the best prose in the English language. So don't get filtered like this doofus >>17404083

For some reason I haven't been able to get into ToTC. I've read several of Dickens' novels and I quite enjoy his style and adore his characters. But this one I've never gotten more than a few chapters in before losing interest.

Dickens does love to use really long and convoluted sentences. Especially early on you may find yourself rereading some sentences to try and make sense of what he's trying to say, but if you stick with it, it's quite a good book

Dickens will basically put you off reading books for the rest of your life. Have fun with that.

Thanks for the reply, anon. I was worried because I haven't read a lot of pre-20th century lit at all, just Picture of Dorian Gray and Adventures of Huck Finn in recent memory. I'll give it a shot. And that other guy isn't me, by the way.
