How much was he influenced by Ancient Rome? Cause I'm reading Quo Vadis now and King's Landing reminds me of Rome under Neron's rule and later, burning of Rome reminds me of Daenery's meltdown, fucked up things some Roman rulers did remind me of GOT shenanigans, the overall feeling of scheming and fighting too. And if he was, was it conscious or accidental?

It's not just Rome, he takes a lot of things from history in general. The red wedding = the purple wedding, Oldtown = Alexandria, Titan of Braavos = Colossus of Rhodes, Aegon the Conqueror = William the Conqueror, Andals = Saxons, Angles and other Germanic tribals (there was literally a germanic tribe called the Vandals, he just took one letter out of it)
