he wasnt more occultist than, say schumann or bach who hid coded messages in some of their music.
overall he wanted his works to be self-contained without external esoteric keys to unlock. thats also in line with schopenhauer's anti-obscurantist attitudes.

there are more parallels in dutchman and tannhäuser to faust than anything in the ring. the ring tragedy is constructed very differently.
